Lakes 5 Days 2018
Index, results & links
An amazing number of members took advantage of this quadrennial opportunity to orienteer in some of the most breathtaking scenery in the UK. Besides testing themselves on some of the most challenging - and wet - terrain! Who doesn't know how to navigate via marshes now?
Publicity attempt
at Combe Hill
Publicity is difficult enough to obtain for minority sports like ours, which lie largely off the media's radar. The patience of club president Mike Crockett was tested while seeking a mention for the club on Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset recently. Mike reports...

Planners' hints & tips
Monday 20 August
Steve Robertson is inviting members to an illustrated talk at Broomfield Village Hall. There's no need to pre-book your place- just turn up on the night if you can. "Half time" refreshments will be served.
Lakes 5 Days 2018: Day 3
Whinlatter
Situated in the north west of the Lake District the course area was steep working forest with surrounding areas of open fell. Weather was significantly better than earlier days so much so that waterproof hooded jackets were not required!
Mountain Marathon
in the South West
Time is running out if you want to enter the OMM (Original Mountain Marathon), being held in the Black Mountains, a short hop away over the Severn Bridge in late October. With no Long O this year, it's the longest adventure race available locally (19 Aug: event now sold out)
Lakes 5 Days 2018: Day 2
Angle Tarn Pikes
Day 2 was under threat - event organisers warned of a possible cancellation due to the unexpectedly heavy rainfall and potential for flooded fields for car parking. Fortunately, the event went ahead and competitors enjoyed much improved weather from Day 1.
Lakes 5 Days 2018: Day 1
Silver How
After weeks of dry weather it was “waterproofs must be worn/carried by all runners” today. Despite the weather outlook QO entrants were keen to leave the flat fields of Grasmere to tackle the 2.3 km walk (400m of ascent) to the start.
Viva La France!
Besides being good at football, our Gallic neighbours can also put on a mean O festival. Just a fortnight ahead of the Lakes 5 Days, Andy Rimes and Rosie Wych enjoyed O France 2018 in Moselle and threw in some cycling and climbing for good measure.
Last of the summer relays
The last relay of the summer series was at the landscaped grounds of Killerton House NT, where QO provided three of the 10 teams competing.
