New members
2018
In 2018 we saw more than 30 new members join us. This report contains brief introductions and 'hellos' to each
Christmas message
from the President
Quantock Orienteers have suffered quite badly from the weather this year. Our Compass Sport heat was rained off but this had its benefits as it gave members a chance to perform on the big stage at Cannock Chase.
Post-Christmas novelty score event
At Ash Priors
'Snooker O' score format - a QO first...and possibly last!
Please note: the closing date for entries has now passed.
Festive season
Novelty events
There's plenty of events relatively nearby to keep you going over the festive period. Next up is a Boxing Day event in Ringwood, Dorset.
Remember, you can find fixtures from neighbouring clubs on our Events page, below our own fixture list.
Mutters Moor
Devon League
A brief flurry of hail just after midday was the precursor to some very wet afternoon weather near Sidmouth on Sunday 16th December. This definitely benefitted earlier starters! QO sent about a dozen runners as usual.
JOG - Review
Autumn 2018
Running until early December, our Autumn season had one event every weekend. Terrain varied from open hill top and woods to parkland or college campus and we visited two new venues.
Compass Sport Trophy
Final, West Midlands
Backed by our brilliant support team, 18 members ran for the club at the national final of this inter-club tournament on Sunday. Up against some very stiff competition, we still managed to beat a couple of clubs.
Maps for juniors
Clarity praised
An experienced member of another club who's been a regular at our Forest League events over many years has praised the club for providing clear, large scale maps for juniors. Surprisingly, it appears 'going large' isn't always the norm elsewhere.
Dartmoor & Southern Champs
Weekend 25/26 Nov
About 10 members hopped down the A38 to Holne Moor.
Meanwhile, Bill Vigar was runner up in the Championships at Hindhead and the Devils Punchbowl, Surrey.
Thurlbear Woods
A soggy JOG
What a wet and uninviting day! Even worse for Chris Philip the planner who spent the morning putting out controls in the pouring rain!
Venice street race
What streets?!
We're used to events being rained off, but held so soon after the ancient city's worst floods in a decade, it seems amazing this race actually went ahead! Tony Hext celebrated a big birthday in style there.
Inside Park
SW League
A good-sized QO contingent travelled down to Dorset, with those on the long courses getting to run across seemingly every square metre of this woodland based campsite.
First dibs
Newcomer finds lost SI card
Like finding a needle in a haystack...no, we're not talking about "that" control on your last course. Rather, what happens when those neat little timing chips we attach to our index fingers go missing during competition (and hopefully not into a pile of brashings)
Willett Hill JOG
All courses visited the tower at the top of the hill so everyone had a chance to catch their breath and enjoy the views!
It was good to see people chatting at the end comparing their courses and discussing their route choices.
