New Forest- major event
November Classic
There was some fast orienteering on the open healthland of Hampton Ridge, just west of the New Forest. The prestigious annual 'Classic' race attracted competitors UK-wide.
No more After Dark
QOADs league scrapped
Almost as quickly as it returned, QOADs has gone. A very poorly attended event at Buckland Wood prompted a decision to end our after dark forest events. Roger and Judy Craddock explain below and thank those who have supported the league.
Buckland Wood JOG
Buckland Wood is not an easy venue to find so we were pleased that so many people came…see the photo of the car park! It was also a new area for JOG and most courses presented quite a challenge.
Queen's College JOG
Andrew Page planned the courses at Queens last Saturday, making good use of the complex buildings to encourage accurate map reading.
Photos (Dropbox) - by Jim Pearson
Brilliant photos from Jim again!
Broomfield Hill JOG
It was the first time we have had a “long leg” map memory for the Fox course and it proved quite challenging! As well as a lot of our regular JOGgers we welcomed three new families along to enjoy Chris Hasler’s courses.

The club has developed a scheme designed to help and encourage those looking to improve and / or gain confidence. But for it to work properly, we need more potential matches. All welcome regardless of age or experience.
Team for final announced
Compass Sport Trophy
Club captain Chris Hasler has unveiled his line-up for the Final in the West Midlands on Sunday 21 October. A mini bus will be taking most of us there and we'll be using the club's superfast SIAC dibbers.
Lydeard Hill JOG
Will we? Won’t we have JOG? In the end we made the right choice, it was SO windy BUT dry and warm, a wonderful time to be on Lydeard Hill and plenty of people came along.
Map printing
& other news
With the club now striving to create its event maps directly from the widely used Purple Pen software, we have a new guide to assist planners with the process.
Bogs & spoil heaps
In Dorset & South Wales
Several members competed on the tricky and sometimes boggy open moorland of Purbeck for the annual Dorset Delight on Sunday, while another two went to South Wales to reaquaint themselves with the even trickier moonscapes left behind by industry, almost as an accidental gift to orienteers.
Fyne & dandy
Saturday's JOG
Family friendly Fyne Court was the scene for the third JOG of the season, in warm and sunny weather. Karen Lewis was one of several who must have thought they knew the area well - until they tried Steve Robertson's 'Fox' training exercise.
League winners
QOFL 2017-18
What a cliffhanger...the race to win most of the seven QOFL divisions went right down to the wire. The margin of victory over the whole season in those leagues was only two or three minutes, making this season one of the most closely contested in the series' 20 year history.
