Forest League
Who's going to win?
Who wins the league very much depends on who turns up at our final fixture of the season at Blackborough!
Mendip event
Yoxter Ranges military league
A rare chance to run on a very interesting open and feature-rich area locally arose on Wednesday (9 May). It was on the Mendips and though it was a Military League South event, civilian orienteers were welcome. Several QO went.
BOK Trot & Ross urban
Weekend action
Despite the efforts of its mud-loving wild boar population, the Forest of Dean remains a lovely place to run at this time of year, with the trees well-spaced out and free from brambles! Bill Vigar was runner-up on his course.
Captain's log
Too fast?
Staggered by feats described in a national orienteering magazine, our club captain Chris Hasler thought he'd remind us quite how fast some of the top guys on the UK orienteering scene are...
South West League 2017/18

Davidstow Galoppen
SW League (9 of 9)
Lightning fast terrain made for some very quick times on a sunny but breezy day on Bodmin Moor. Kerno OC played host to what was the last Galoppen of the season and eight of our members travelled down to Cornwall
Devon Moorland League
Bill & Martin win
Devon OC's series is no test for the faint hearted, set mainly on Dartmoor during the winter months with plenty of mist, rain and wind. Well done then to Bill Vigar (Short Green) and Martin Lewis (Light Green) for winning their leagues!
Mendips event
Win for Janet
If Bristol club's Sunday event was a short hop for many of the two dozen QO attending, it was practically on the doorstep of two of our top performers, one of whom was new member Janet Scott who won the Long Orange course
Ashclyst Forest
Back to the woods
Seventeen of us made the short hop south to Devon OC's event and took on some physical but partly runnable terrain. Contrasting nicely with the open though rather featureless St Audries last week, there was a maze of earthbanks and numerous point features.

St Audries qualifier results
After a pregnant pause in announcing the results so large it would put most prime time TV game or talent shows to shame, we can finally, officially, without further ado, pronounce "...and the winner is..."

Mendip Hills event
This Sunday Bristol OK has an event at Black Down - nothing to do with the range of hills we use. Its on open hillside with an extensive path network and dozens of individually mapped trees...and it has a curious past.
Retr-O event
St Audries 1970
To show how far orienteering has developed, Gavin Clegg takes a peak down memory lane to his first ever orienteering event at the same venue we used on Sunday but nearly half a century later
Armchair event
St Audries Photo-O
Fancy another run up at St Audries? OK, a virtual run. Have you tried out Steve Robertson's photo-O challenge? The terrain looked a little different over the summer when the event was being planned- not quite as runnable!
JK 2018
West Midlands
A dozen or so QO members ran at the Easter weekend tournament (the Jan Kjellstrom International Festival of Orienteering), this year held in the Midlands/ Staffordshire.
