Mendip event

Yoxter Ranges military league

Published: Wed 9 May 2018

A rare chance to run on a very interesting open and feature-rich area locally arose on Wednesday (9 May). It was on the Mendips and though it was a Military League South event, civilian orienteers were welcome. Several QO went.

It's also rare for a Military League South event to be held so far west.

The area was used in January for a Bristol OK event. The map excerpt from Routegadget shows part of Pete Shirvington's route on the Brown course that day.

The organisers at Warminster Garrison are being assisted by BOK and they say:

"Its an opportunity to run on some fun, fast and quite technical terrain and could appeal to SWOA members who have flexible working, are retired etc. Many would not consider this series of orienteering as they are mostly distant from our region so would be unaware of it happening."

  • Its based at the TA camp BA5 3BS, ST511543
  • Courses from Light Green up to Brown (10.1 km) plus a runner's course (Red, 5km)
    Registration is from 11.00 -15.45
  • Starts from 11.00-16.00, courses close at 17.00.
  • EOD Civilian price £6
