Hardy Relays, Poole
Trio of teams run
Broadstone Park in Poole was the destination on a muggy Sunday with another great club turnout at the latest South West summer series relay.
Summer training finale
Relays & BBQ at Henlade Wood
We ended our summer training series with some fun relays and a wonderful selection of food on this partially wooded hill overlooking Taunton

General news
Urban O & controller's course
On Wednesday (12 July), Graham Hartley's pursuit of honours in the Bristol summer urban series continued.
Another two members attended a training course with a difference recently- partly set in the genteel surroundings of a village hall, the other bit being on Dartmoor!
3rd place for relay team
Furrow Hoppers, Gillingham
A team of five led by Brian Pearson did us proud at Gillingham School on Sunday, for the second week running beating everyone except the Bristol, the team already crowned champions and the usual dominant force, Wessex. Results
Club newsletters
SWOA's restarts as Devon's ends
Our regional association SWOA has just restarted producing a regular newsletter, albeit electronically. This follows Devon's proposal this week that their latest newsletter is to be their last. Our club's last magazine was issued in April 2016. So what do all the other clubs do?
Dorchester & Clevedon urban O
Andrew & Graham go for hat-tricks
Our most two prominent urban runners were aiming for three league wins in a row, Andrew Page heading south to Dorchester and Graham Hartley northwards to Clevedon. Andrew won and now leads the Southern urban league table in the men's junior category. Graham had a very close race!
Sarum Moonraker relays
Following the herd
Four club teams competed at Dinton Park (National Trust) near Salisbury and the A and B teams finished in the top third! The format was very different to Ashton Court last week- very little waiting around and constant running in the midday heat. Plus dodging a herd of cows. Results
Schools festival
at Norton Manor Camp
The rain didn't dampen the mood in the annual mass participation event at the marines' Taunton base. A great turnout of club helpers got the 850 children on their way and gain their first experience of orienteering
MTBO, urban, Devon & Wales
Events review: 25 June - 2 July
Graham Hartley climbed into top position in the Bristol urban series Green course. A trio of members took part in the mountain bike orienteering on Haddon Hill. Meanwhile, Jeff Pakes got in practice for the Scottish 6 Days in South Wales, on the dunes and on the moors.
Event Safety Workshop
Saturday 8 July, 10am-1pm
You are invited to attend the session, organised by Mike Forrest of Bristol OK. It is open to any orienteer whether in QO or any other club. It is now mandatory for anyone taking the role of planner, organiser or controller to have had attended an event safety workshop
Training at Quants
Buckland Wood's hidden wonders
We were lucky enough to have training three weeks' running at Quants, the delightful eastern part of Buckland Wood. The woods there conceal a variety of bizarre, almost randomly placed structures. Never have our "map walks" and bearings exercises been so interesting, wondering what we'll encounter next
Ashton Court relays
Juniors rise to the challenge
Thanks to our members investing in our green and yellow club shirts, the rolling wooded lawns of the stately home had a highly visible Quantock presence on Sunday, during Bristol OK's annual relay.
Presentations & AGM
& an uplifting talk
Many of those competing at the club championships joined us afterwards at the COACH building for a buffet, a video presentation and an awards ceremony. While the AGM was taking place, some of the children were given the opportunity to fly kite surfer Ray Toomer's kites on Longrun Meadow.
Ashton Court relays
Sunday 25 June
Sunday will see another mass exodus from Somerset...a staggering 30 members have signed up for a team at Sunday's relays, the day after the Club Champs. And to think we were struggling to get two teams together a week or so ago. You sure you can all handle two days on the trot?
