Course planning
A conference & training
Some very experienced orienteers, some well known internationally, will be discussing how to plan courses successfully in Exeter on Saturday 7 October. Speakers include Dave Peel, who coached GB to the world championship. NEW: Flyer
At the races
Urban win for Andrew
It was the bank holiday weekend, so where better to spend it than at the races? Epsom anyone? That's where urban specialist Andrew Page headed, in the first of two runs in the South East. He now has his nose in front in the Southern England urban league.
Pyrenees 5 Days
QO presence
In mid August, Andy Rimes and Rosie Wych took part in all five days of the O Cerdanya 2017 tournament in the Catalan Pyrenees, straddling the French and Spanish borders. Both acquired good results... and good tans. Video
Mountain Bike Orienteering
Wheely good result for Chris
Orienteering action returned to the Quantocks on Sunday- but only if you had wheels. Chris Phillip was third out of 38 riders on the Quantocks on Sunday, in SWEMBO's latest three hour "score" event. Well done Chris! Results, Report
Scottish 6 Days 2017
Review, by day
An amazing week we had on Royal Deeside! Fourteen from QO and JOG headed north, half being S6D debutants but some veterans of multiple campaigns. Forecasts of rain were mainly scotched; at worst we had mildy intrusive drizzle and at best, summer heat with bright and clear views.
Scottish 6 Days
Armchair training
The tricky and technical terrain at the Scottish threw up all sorts of scope for errors...and happen they did. Here is a selection of Routegadget excerpts showing pitfalls that lay in wait for those who represented us up there. How would you have tackled the legs in question? Training pages
Scottish 6 Days
Who went?
We had a good representation up in the Highlands with 10 members and 4 JOGgers attending. Half of those were making their S6D debuts. Well done to them and Bill Vigar, 2nd on M80 plus Tony Hext and the Robertsons for competing in all six days and the so-called rest day.
Startrack event
at Taunton Athletic Club
In late July, we put on a maze course for school children who are keen on athletics during this annual week-long sporting event run by a well-established Somerset-based athletics club
New season
Caddihoe curtain-raiser
The new season kicks off (bleeps off?) with some fantastic dune action taking place on the first weekend in September at the annual Caddihoe. The 10 or so QO members who've entered have a sprint race and long and middle distance races to look forward to.
Planners' courses
Next one: Tuesday (15th)
Would you like to learn how to plan exciting courses to be run at our junior events? On Monday, five prospective planners had a go at doing just that. Mike Crockett's session will be repeated this Tuesday (15th August)- please apply to Judy Craddock if you would like to attend.
Devon Relays
Close tussle between QO teams
Captain for the day Chris Philip set up our three teams to be quite equal and so competitive with each other to see who could claim club "bragging rights"! His vision was rewarded with a tight finish between two of those teams... Results
SW relays series 2017
Review
A record breaking summer...we had more than 40 individuals taking part in SWOA's series. In a year when Bristol OK took everyone by surprise by entering teams consistently, we managed to finish some way ahead of Sarum to claim third behind the usual series winners Wessex Raiders.
JOG fixtures published
for Autumn term
We have a weekly event every Saturday from mid September to mid December, with the usual full range of venues, from college campuses up to "proper" forests and open hilltop. Download your fixture list here
Chairman's chat
2016-17 annual report
For the benefit of those that didn't attend the AGM, reproduced here is the chairman's report read out by Roger Craddock that day. Roger recounts the major achievements this year, thanking the individuals concerned and outlining projects, challenges and things to look forward to next season...
Bristol urban series
Golden Graham
Congratulations to Graham Hartley on becoming the 2017 champion on Bristol OK's urban summer series, winning the Green (middle length) course. It went down to the wire, with Graham stealing in ahead of the favourite for the title when she missed a control
