AGM & buffet
Saturday 31 August
The buffet and prize giving for the Forest League and other competitions will precede this year's Annual General Meeting. All these things are being held at the Lord Nelson Inn, Norton-sub-Hamdon (not Stoke-sub-Hamdon, as previously published), following the Club Championships.
Introduction to Orienteering
At Ham Hill
On Wednesday 24 July Pete Akers and Tony Hext organised a CATI (come and try it) event as part of South Somerset’s Pop-up Museum and Activity Calendar.
Thanks to Tony Hext for the following report.
News of members
- Martin Lewis and Pete Shirvington have registered for the Race the Castles series in Yorkshire- but not all nine days in a row, which includes urban, middle distance, woodland and even indoor events!
- One of our leading orienteers Brian Fletcher reports that he is hoping to return to orienteering next year
SW Summer Relays 2020
There are usually six or seven relays held throughout the South West typically in small woods, country parks and urban areas.
All relays are on Sundays and some even have a BBQ or social afterwards.

See the Photo Gallery for pictures of each receiving their awards.
Final league tables:
Wessex Relays
A close finish
In a tragic plot twist befitting of a Thomas Hardy novel and to the backdrop of that writer's beloved Wessex terrain, our enjoyable and successful series ended in misfortune and anti-climax at the Hardy Relays.
SW Summer Relays 2019
So close!
It went down to the final relay but Wessex pipped us in the end on their own patch. Apart from that, it was a great series with three relays wins for us at Devon, Sarum and our own events.
Urban events
April - July 2019
The finale to the Bristol series...Pete Shirvington was 7th of 27 on the Long course. On the Short, Graham Hartley gave the series' top two a run for their money while Phil Sorrell impressed on his urban series debut, finishing 7th of 42.
Micr-O & more
in South Wales
A miniature mountain orienteering course was amongst one of the attractions for a trio of QO who made the trip to South Wales and Forest of Dean this weekend for a double-header. Ideal preparation for forthcoming summer tournaments, it was well attended by those seeking a technical challenge.
Saunders Mountain Marathon
Howgills, Lake District
Arising presumably fresh from their overnight camp, the Shirvingtons had a very impressive day 2, climbing 13 places to 47th of 115.
Harterfell Class- Overall results
The Modicas meanwhile climbed one place and clocked up 16.5 hours on the hills.
Sarum relay
More wins!
QO recruited some urban orienteering specialists for our Warminster Garrison test and we won the Moonraker Trophy for the first time! In doing so, we kept our prospects of a series win alive. The juniors won their relay and our other seniors were third.
