Whitchurch Common
SW League season begins
Despite the rainy start to the day, 22 QO headed to the opening race of the new SW League season, up on Dartmoor. They were rewarded with a great event, some good runs and sunshine which made hanging around afterwards a pleasure.
Henlade Hill JOG
Ray and Sue Toomer certainly made the most of Henlade Hill small venue though it is, with a variety of interesting courses.
We had another great turn out which was surprising as the weather forecast was not grand.

NEW: brief report from Martin Lewis
Netherclay JOG
One of the courses had some senior orienteers well and truly 'foxed' this week...for planner Jenny West presented them with a blank map with bearings but very little else to go on!
A great exercise for anyone who's ever tried it, even in an area you think you know well.
Caddihoe Chase
& SW Long Distance champs
Congratulations to the new SW Long Distance & Caddihoe Chase champions Tom Hasler (M18), Oliver Lewis (M12), Annabelle Lewis (W12).
In total, fifteen QO braved the testing weather on Sheeps Tor, Dartmoor over the two events.

Coombe Hill Wood
Permanent course, temporary closure
For anyone thinking of venturing up there, due to forestry work commencing week beginning 7 October the majority of the Combe Hill Wood permanent course will be closed. The White course will still be available though.
Broomfield Hill JOG
Last Saturday saw JOG at Broomfield Hill an area which provides a good mixture of open heathland, woods and open fields (with stunning views).

A warm welcome to Ollie Rant, who joins us having sampled several JOG training sessions this season and last.
Membership secretary Judy Craddock said "It's great to have Ollie on board, our first M21 for a long time."
Andrew makes podium
London City Race
Congratulations to Andrew Page for a strong performance in the capital, where he finished third, just 90s behind the winner in the M16- category. Like in 2017, the action centred around the striking Barbican Centre.
Willett Hill JOG
This small but perfectly formed hilltop wood is still a relatively new area for orienteering and plenty people came and tried it out.
Judy Craddock reports.
Chairman's Challenge
Junior Parkrun
Here are some photos of our new chairman’s Junior Parkrun Challenge. Or perhaps that should be the Smartie Challenge after the chocolates that were on offer. As with the senior Parkrun the previous day, there were some personal bests achieved.

Check out who's been giving themselves a sneaky headstart before the season gets going! Here is your round up of results and events for September to date, as some of the keenest get back to action after only the shortest of summer breaks.
President's Challenge
Several PB's at Parkrun
Was it the lure of the wine that did it? About 10 turned up for our President's Challenge, with several registering PB's (personal bests). All the more amazing when you consider our contestants between them had hundreds of Parkruns under their belts.

Meet our new Chair
Many of you will by now know that the club has a new chairman in Alasdair Shaw. Orienteering is just one of many outdoor sports Alasdair has been involved in. Below he tells us a little bit more about himself.
