Events round-up
Weekend of 18/19 March
The National Arboretum is ablaze with autumn colours one season. The next it's ablaze with the gaudy nylon sported by gurning orienteers, zipping up and down the tracks there. Several members travelled up to Gloucestershire to take part. Closer to home, we had training at Crowcombe Heathfield.
JOG at Crowcombe Heathfield
Full steam ahead
The penultimate junior event of the season saw us at an established forest league venue overlooked by the Quantocks. The tooting steam trains arriving and departing from the vintage station nearby always lends something to the atmosphere...full steam ahead, JOGgers!
Juniors at Compass Sport Trophy
Good results in Dorset
Several of our juniors put in excellent performances at the Compass Sport Trophy at Moors Valley Country Park, near Ringwood on Sunday 12 March. We also had a good number of younger juniors doing well in the White and Yellow courses.
JOG at Ash Priors Common
Surprisingly challenging area
We had a fine spring day to enjoy a relatively new area which offers a nice contrast to our other JOG venues. It's strangely reminiscent of the New Forest, the terrain is relatively flat with a patchwork of woodland and large clearings, bisected by minor roads and streams.
Mystery Buddy
Roughly a fortnight ago, an eager buddy filled out the online form on buddying. We were glad he was interested. However, he unfortunately left the question regarding who he was blank, so we don’t know how to contact him
Events & training review
Weekend of 4/5 March
A fabulous weekend of orienteering was on offer, with members heading off at all points of the compass. Close to home on Saturday was training at the ever lovely Fyne Court. Meanwhile, seven of us hit the warrens and sand dunes of South Wales for the weekend and others headed east to Font Hill.
JOG at Fyne Court
Jim Nickolls planned some excellent courses around the lovely grounds of Fyne Court, which was looking at it's best, with clumps of stunning snowdrops and anemonies in flower. We were lucky with the weather, the sun managing to shine now and then!
Compass Sport Trophy 2017
Final details
The club team is all set for the Compass Sport Trophy heats near Ringwood on Sunday! Team members, please refer to Richard's latest email sent to all of you on Friday 10th and if you have anything to ask him please contact him (details below).
Club Night
Night nav and training
Coaches Tess Stone and Vikki Page are making excellent use of Longrun Meadow at it's 'Cathedral' on Thursday night (2 March), giving us a thorough workout each time. Orienteering training in the dark for all age groups- who would have thought it possible?
Post from the President
February 2017
With our new website now firmly established and well received by club members, I thought it about time I put pen to paper or rather fingers (all two of them) to keys. So much has happened in the past few weeks.
JOG at Cothelstone Hill
Ahoy- Sea Scouts visit
Thar she blows! Bridport Sea Scouts made a windy Cothelstone Hill their port of call at JOG this Saturday. Some of their crew sailed along at a good rate of knots to show they could mix it with our landlubbers
