Events 13-17 May
Sussex, Bodmin Moor & urban
Two contrasting areas were on offer on the sunny weekend of 13/14 May, with nine travelling to Sussex for some forest and urban action, and another five tackling some fast open formerly mined terrain just off the A30 in Cornwall
Controller's course
South Devon, Sat 17 June
Controllers work with the course planner to help them create courses that are fair, safe and enjoyable. Many established controllers have or are on the verge of retiring. Could you do their job? Devon are organising the course, led by Roger Hargreaves, near Bovey Tracey.
COACH grand opening

11 May saw the official opening of the COACH building in French Weir Park, Taunton. COACH stands for Centre for Outdoor Activity and Community Hub. QO have been using the COACH building for the base for their Club Night Training sessions for a few months now.
Yvette Baker Trophy final

Juniors, you did so well in the YBT qualifying round that it’s a possibility that we’ll go to the north east for the final- be there! If we do go, the venue has good contour detail and that is what Tess and Vikki's Thursday training sessions are now concentrating on.
British Championships 2017
Long distance race
Congratulations to Bill Vigar M80 for finishing runner up in the British Orienteering Championships in the Lake District. Runners had to master the challenges posed by the mixed forest and open areas of High Dam posed but were blessed with fine weather.

Streets, parkland & an ancient forest
Forty QO and JOG members headed to an event outside our county this Sunday! There was an abundance of action: the junior team event at Savernake, an urban race at Amesbury and a Devon League event within the National Trust grounds at Knightshayes.

Easter weekend
Several QO members ran at the Jan Kjellstrom International Festival of Orienteering or the JK as it's known. The late Easter and southern climes meant lovely spring sunshine, in contrast to some recent JKs! We even mustered a relay team on Easter Monday.

The panoramic parkland of Trelissick in Cornwalland the steep hillside of Painswick Beacon in North Gloucester were good options for orienteers locally in the weekend just gone. There was a very close contest at the Trelissick event....
National news
from BOF
Amongst the issues that the latest bulletin from British Orienteering (BOF) focuses on are the continued pitfalls associated with putting on major events such as next weekend's JK. Also outlined in the chief executive's e-news is the new format of BOF's new website, due to go live in late April.
