Notice for non-members

You need to join us if you have had 3 or more runs at our events.

After this point, runs will not be covered under British Orienteering's (BOF's) public liability insurance. Regrettably we cannot let uninsured runners take part.

For those renewing membership, BOF say you need to do so by Friday 15 December for it to take effect in time for the New Year.

All new members are allocated to a team which will help run two events per season - to find out which one, please click here. Helping at our events is a great way of meeting of meeting and catching up with other members.

Also joining...

In November

The Peter-Budge children of Bishops Lydeard. Together with dad Gary, they have attended a number of JOGs this term. Chloe, Charlie and Jodie also had good runs on the Yellow course at our last Forest League event at Wind Down.

Martin Lewis of Wellington, Sarah Ridout of Weston-super-Mare, the Trubys, Jana and Neil of Combe Florey and the Ryles family of Woolavington, Nick, Deb, Jemima, Ethan and Lewis.

Martin is the latest member of the Lewis clan to join us. He's attended a few JOGs and ran the Light Green course at Wind Down.

Sarah joins us from Devon OC and has attended several of our QOFLs over the last couple of seasons with her partner, QO member Ian Purnell. She was also at our first ever club night.

Starting out at the Silk Mills 'Come and Try It', we're glad to see the Ryles have been back for more each week since. Ethan is showing great enthusiasm not to mention stamina by doing two or even three courses each Saturday.

Linda and Hazel Mudd of Kilve, have been regular JOG-goers for many years.

Lou McTighe, partner of Pete Shirvington was at our Galoppen last year, has been to the some JOGs and gave support to Pete when he organised the last QOFL.

In October:

Mark Rest of Minehead. Mark will be a familiar face to those who have been to recent club nights. He completed the Green course at Cothelstone Hill recently- not bad considering he last orienteered regularly about 20 years ago! Back then he was running with Southern Navigators, a big club.

Stephen Lysaczenko of Ilminster- Stephen's fell running t-shirt hints that he may be a strong runner!

In September:

The Lewises - Isabelle, Annabelle and Oliver of Wellington. All four Lewises, including existing member Karen, were at the Scottish 6 Days last month.

The Scarboroughs, Amanda and Sundari, who already have an advantage over many in the club - they live a stone's throw from many of our areas on and near the Quantocks! They first visited us at Cothelstone Hill at JOG last season.

Summer

In August:

Chris Denton of Wellington, an occasional orienteer, rejoined. Chris won the Light Green course at our Croydon Hill forest league (QOFL) event in December...only to gain "nul points"! The moral is, only members of British Orienteering (i.e. members of QO & other registered clubs) can score points in our league.

In July:

Joined on Tuesday, straight into the team for Sunday... Alan Nesbit, husband of Judy. The experienced orienteer helped our B team to a good results in the summer relay near Salisbury. Alan's gone one better than another recent joiner Richie Holgate, who had to wait two weeks to make his relay team debut!

Richie and fellow newbies Dave Harrison and Annabel Davis, both of Taunton have all been to our summer Thursday evening training sessions. Richie's has been doing one-to-one training with Brian Pearson. Both Richie and Annabel were at the summer relay event at Ashton Court, with Richie making a good debut on the Orange course and Annabel helping the juniors. Being and M21 and W21 respectively, Richie and Annabel, finally give us a presence in our sport's prime age group categories!

Both have promising backgrounds...Richie has apparently already enjoyed runs around Braunton Burrows using an OS map while being from the Modica clan, Annabel will surely not be without help in getting started as an orienteer.

Spring

In April:

The Carter family of Burtle joined. Matt, who orienteered back in the early 90s, and the rest of the family were at Staple Hill for our final QOFL of the season and did well. Up till then, they had been training themselves up at the permanent course at Coombe Hill. Since then, we are delighted to see they have bravely ventured to some serious events, taking in the Spring multi-day tournaments in Sussex and Shropshire. They also won our mini relay held at the end of our training series.

In March:

The Guildford family of Crediton joined, having sampled some JOG events in the spring term.

Winter

In February:

Karen Lewis joined and along with her family, took the commendably adventurous step of taking part in the Scottish 6 Days in the summer.

JOG regulars the Willmotts (Dave, Oliver and Harry) also joined and ran for the club at the inter-club team event in Dorset the next month.
