Orienteering - what's it all about?

To get an idea, see our guide for newcomers, which contains explanations, pictures and videos and our and photo section (see green menu buttons)

Our invitation

Quantock Orienteers have obtained a Sport England (Lottery Funded) grant to promote orienteering in the Taunton Deane area. Families and individuals are invited to come and test their navigating skills on some simple courses in an area to the North of the River Tone and South of the railway line.

Courses will be offered ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 km of increasing difficulty which can be timed electronically for those who are competitive. If you are interested, park at the Silk Mills Park and Ride area between 2 and 4pm and follow the Orienteering signs to the start, where you will be given help and encouragement, maps (£1 each) and equipment.

Maps will be available for the Permanent Orienteering Course on the adjacent Longrun Meadow, where smart phone users can use a downloadable app to time and compare their results using the QR codes on the control posts!

- Roger Craddock (club chairman)

What other opportunities will there be to get involved?

We have an event every Saturday during the Autumn term, up until a fortnight before Christmas. See our event programme on the main menu or on the back of the flyer.

You're also invited to our Club Nights, in French Weir Park, Taunton every Thursday evening 18.30 till 20.00. Club Nights are split into physical training and a series of presentations on aspects of the sport.
