What a superb start to the new season! The weather was kind and the turnout was amazing.
It was great to welcome new faces as well as regulars and to see so many runners having a fun time while exercising both body and brain. What other sport can offer that?!
Ray’s courses demonstrated that Longrun Meadow is a great location, both for providing opportunities for less experienced runners, and, with a bit of ingenuity, enough of a challenge even for the old hands. The fox course in particular, which involved visiting controls in pairs, demanded both physical and mental stamina. It was pleasing to see a good number of Hares running today – the hares of today are the foxes of tomorrow!
Thank you to Ray for planning the courses, Graham Hartley for controlling, Roger and Judy for their work on the desks and Tom, Linda and Richard for collecting in the controls. Thank you to everyone who came and we hope to see you again on 20th September at Wind Down. This will be a different sort of orienteering experience for newcomers, in the woods, and a chance to enjoy communing with nature.
Our Junior Orienteering Group (JOG) runs during term times holding low-key regular events aimed at juniors, families, and all those looking to improve or train. Newcomers are always welcome.
Non-members are very welcome. If you like it and want to join, read about joining QO here.

Hare, Squirrel and Badger are conventional courses. The Fox has many possible route variants and will require clear thinking and route planning on the fly. Instructions will be provided on the day.
Please note that pre-entries close at midnight Tuesday 2nd September as we need to know entry numbers for map printing purposes. Entry on the day will be available but there will be limited map numbers so pre-entry is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.
Please consider buying a pack of pre-entry credits in advance. This costs you the same but saves the club a lot in credit card fees.
