Type of event: Training, Juniors
For our first JOG of the season we returned to a much loved small area with woodland and open areas. Henlade provides an ideal opportunity for juniors to try stepping up a course or to make a first solo run.
We had a hiccup or two on the runup to the event but in the end is was an great afternoon and an excellent start to our new JOG season. The turnout was good, and there were smiles all round.
Whereas, in previous years, the paths around Henlade Wood have been treacherously wet and slipper, this time the long, hot summer had baked the ground and extra care was needed to avoid the huge crack that had opened up in the clay soil. There were no complaints though, except about the smell wafting from some local manure spreading! Everyone seemed to enjoy their run, the weather was glorious and Emily’s courses made excellent use of what is a small but not unchallenging area.
We awarded certificates for last season to some of our young stars Boris, James, Apolline and Crispin.
Sarah and Tom did a sterling job carrying equipment up the hill and back and on registration, assisted by Bea.
Thanks go to Ray for controlling and to Chris, Emily and Hazel for control collecting, and to Bea for collecting in the ‘smilies’.
Our Junior Orienteering Group (JOG) runs during term times holding low-key regular events aimed at juniors, families, and all those looking to improve or train. Newcomers are always welcome.

The usual courses will be available and, despite the limited size of the area, the cunning planner has made sure that the foxes will find they are suitably challenged!

Please consider buying a pack of pre-entry credits in advance. This costs you the same but saves the club a lot in credit card fees.

By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk.
