Combe Wood Summer Special
Glorious weather, beautiful surroundings and great company - the formula for a perfect day outdoors. We are so grateful to Daid for providing the venue, the courses and the opportunity to eat, play and socialise in his beautiful ancient woodland. Barbecued food eaten round a camp fire, marsh mallows toasted on sticks, a zip wire and scrambling net… oh yes, and we did some orienteering too!
David’s courses proved suitably challenging and, despite being promised that the ground was dry, several participants managed to find a bog or two. Sarah wins the prize for sinking the deepest but Roger tops the bill for dramatic impact having had an encounter with a low tree branch. Lots of glowing faces and happy smiles summed up the day and our visitor from North Wilts Orienteering Club immersed himself in the spirit of JOG and had a great time both running and burning marsh mallows!
Huge thanks to David, to Ray for checking controls and to Joe (NWOC) for helping out in various ways. Thank you to everyone who came and made this such an enjoyable Summer Special.

Our Junior Orienteering Group (JOG) runs during term times holding low-key regular events aimed at juniors, families, and all those looking to improve or train. Newcomers are always welcome.
Non-members are very welcome. If you like it and want to join, read about joining QO here.

Parking will be in the wood or in layby. Don’t block the field entrance.
Course Information
Courses: Hare and Squirrel follow circular routes but the Badger will need some compass navigation and the Fox has a twist!

Starts from 1.30pm. No starts after 2.30pm. Controls collected 3pm.
Terrain Description
Ticks. Full leg cover is recommended. This woodland is regularly used by deer. Check for ticks before you leave.
Facilities
Toilet: There is a composting toilet in the wood.
Please enter in advance if possible. There is no phone signal in the wood so for entry on the day please bring cash.

Insurance: Please note: Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered.
Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. All participants must report to download whether they finish their course or not.

Photography: QO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser.
