A huge thank you goes to David Harrison, not only for inviting us to his wood but also for planning the courses and providing the barbecue etc. We were lucky to be able to escape the soaring temperatures outside and enjoy the shade provided by the majestic trees of this ancient woodland. David’s courses certainly made the most of a restricted area, providing quite a challenge even for some of our stalwarts! The weather, the surroundings, the chance to cook, eat and play outdoors and the opportunity to socialise with other JOGgers, made for the perfect summer special. Even the giant spider had an exciting afternoon!

Thanks also to Richard for controlling and to Judy, Bobbie and Jessica for their help on the desk, to Sheila and Linda for control collecting and to Chris for printing the maps.

Thank you to everyone who took part, regulars and novices, young and not-so-young.

We hope to see you all again when the new season starts on Saturday 6th September at Longrun Meadow.

JOG Summer 2025 Series Info

Our Junior Orienteering Group (JOG) runs during term times holding low-key regular events aimed at juniors, families, and all those looking to improve or train. Newcomers are always welcome.

Non-members are very welcome. If you like it and want to join, read about joining QO here.

Directions / Parking

The event will be signed from Combe Florey. Parking will be in laybys and in the woodland entrance. Please don’t block the narrow lane.

Course Information

We have the usual set of courses (see below). The Fox course offers something a bit different, putting your memory to the test (bring a pen to mark your map if you don’t trust your memory).

  • Hare 1 km 20m climb
  • Squirrel 1 km 25m climb
  • Badger 2.7km, 65 m climb
  • Fox 2.7km, 65m climb

Entry Details

  • Entry - £3 per person pre-entered or £4 per person on the day
  • Dibber hire - Free (but if lost you would be liable for the replacement cost of £30)

Pre-Entries

Please pre-enter by Tuesday 8th July to make sure of your map. Entry on the day will be available but there will be limited map numbers so pre-entry is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.

Please consider buying a pack of pre-entry credits in advance. This costs you the same but saves the club a lot in credit card fees.
