Day one of our weekend of events is an urban regional event using Taunton West and parts of the town centre. The mapped area consists of a mixture of open parkland, riverside areas, residential and commercial built up areas with fine detail in places. Parking and event centre will be based at the (free) park and ride Silk Mills carpark.

Directions / Parking

Free parking at the Park and ride area, Silk Mills. Note there is a height restriction barrier to this parking site of 2m. Higher vehicles can park for free just outside the car park, or on Great Western Way a short (500m) walk away.

Course Information

standard UKUOL range of age class based courses including junior courses. Junior courses will be confined to the parkland areas and will involve no major road traverses nor crossings.

Terrain Description

Taunton, the county town of Somerset, consists a classic mix of residential, industrial and commercial urban and semi-urban areas interspersed with open green parkland spaces. The river Tone and Bridgwater Canal both run through the area providing additional waterside areas of interest

Facilities

Toilets at the parking area. Taunton town centre provides a variety of eating and drinking facilities to cater for all tastes and budgets pre and post race.

Insurance: Please note: Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered.

Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. All participants must report to download whether they finish their course or not.

Photography: QO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Photos taken may be retained beyond the 2 year window for legacy purposes.

Safeguarding: QO is aware of it's responsibilities in safeguarding and child protection.
