An opportunity for beginners to have a go at orienteering and experienced orienteers to have a challenging run out.

QO is assisting Yeovil Town Council in launching their newly refurbished permanent orienteering courses at Yeovil Country Park.

This will be a fun ‘come and try it’ event with courses designed to suit beginners, families and more experienced orienteers.

The easier courses stay within Ninesprings, a beautiful area of woodland, springs and streams, while a more challenging course will also take in the Summerhouse Hill area

Registration and start near Goldenstones Leisure Centre

Course Information

Short easy approximately 1km, 30m climb, suitable for beginners and young families (roughly equivalent to yellow orienteering standard).

Medium moderate, approximately 1.8km, 45m climb suitable for those with some experience and older beginners/families.

Long Challenging, approximately 6km, 150m climb. Suitable for experienced orienteers and runners. 16 or over only unless accompanied by an adult.

Fees: individual £1.50, families with up to four maps £3.00.

Terrain Description

Terrain firm paths and tracks, some grassland on longer course.

Dog restrictions

Dogs are allowed in Yeovil Country Park.

Facilities There is a café and toilet near Goldenstones and a play area within Ninesprings Park.

Insurance: Please note: Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered.

Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. All participants must report to download whether they finish their course or not.

Photography: QO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Photos taken may be retained beyond the 2 year window for legacy purposes.

Safeguarding: QO is aware of it's responsibilities in safeguarding and child protection.
