Course Information
For the adults, this is going to be a welcome return of Snooker O where a one hour event loosely follows the scoring rules for snooker. It is therefore not just the person who gets the controls the fastest, it's the one who maximizes their 'potting' break. Full scoring details are below. The junior course is a simplified version of the above, and novices/family groups can wander around and collect controls as they wish without the snooker scoring format if they prefer.
Some practical information:
- Free parking is available at the park and ride. When you enter, please park in a bay at the far E side behind the administration building. (you'll see 'Vinnie' the Rimes/Wych white VW Van- the event HQ- park near here. Note that there is a height limitation barrier (3.5m max). If you do insist on bringing that Winnebago you've cashed your pension in for, you'll have to park outside the barrier. Please arrive and be ready to run by 10.15hrs latest.
- There will be a briefing at 10.20hrs with starts from 10.30hrs
- The event terrain is mostly in urban parkland using a mixture of grassy tracks and compacted paths- that said, the persistently awful weather we have been enjoying for weeks now, coupled with the area's popularity, have turned it into the veritable quagmire in places- anyone bringing those fancy new £150 trainers they opened on Christmas morning are not going to have an enjoyable morning's sport! Dress appropriately- including wet weather gear if the weather on the day demands it. Only the adult course ventures outside of the parkland area crossing some very quiet roads.
- We are not a swimming club- the river Tone is deep, swollen and fast running- use bridges only for crossing this and any smaller water bodies. Keep children away from unprotected edges- there are no controls placed immediately next to the river banks.
- There is a punching start and finish with a 60 min time limit for all- penalties for lateness are 20 pts/min or part min- don't be late back!
- I have two roving balls- one black, one pink- they could be anywhere in the park at any time. They will not venture outside the park area. If you see them and are in need of the colour ball they represent, they have a control box with them for you to punch. As they are mobile and you will never be able to predict their location, the value of the control they represent will always be its 'full' value (black 70, pink 60) no matter how many times you visit.
Following the event, a post-run social gathering is arranged from 12.00pm at Staplegrove Village Hall nearby (w3w: ends.basin.fool) . Soups/bread and hot/cold drinks will be provided. We ask that, to supplement the soup and bread, you bring along any surplus Christmas nibbles and munchies you may have left over and donate them for all to share- many thanks in advance. Please bring warm clean dry clothes to change into for this, especially footwear- categorically no muddy shoes in the hall please.
