Type of event: Race
Day two of our back to back weekend of events takes us to North Devon and the stupendous technical challenge of Braunton Burrows. This is a level B national event organised and managed by QO with grateful assistance from our friends at Devon Orienteering who are also providing loan of their area for the event.
Two public car-parking areas to be used (shared with the public). One is approximately 0.5km walk from assembly, the other 2.3km, both flat on good tracks. Priority parking at the closer of the two will be given to vehicles carrying very young and/or elderly competitors. The 2.3km track from the northern car park is a nice warm up ride on your mountain or gravel bike.
Both car parks are privately owned/managed and fees apply. We will be collecting parking fees as part of your entry price for those driving in vehicles and operating a parking permit system to avoid delays and queues on entry to either car park- filling vehicles (and sharing parking costs) with as many competitors as possible (and still legal) is a sensible decision.
Alternatively to avoid parking charges it is possible to park vehicles in and around Velator Industrial Estate just outside Braunton Town, on the approach road through the marshes to either car park, and then pool transport or cycle in.
19 age class based courses from M/W10 to M/W90 according to BOF level B regional championship rules including long and short classes for most senior age classes.
Four elite classes: M21E, W21E, M/W18E and M/W20E
A and B classes for junior age groups up to and including M/W16.
In addition, we will provide white, yellow, orange and light green colour coded non-championship courses

Early bird: £18 seniors/£9 juniors +£2/£1 supplements for non-BOF members
Late entries (from 19/2/27) £22/£11 + £2/£1 supplements as above

Juniors (including students) are 21 or below on the day of the event.
Chip hire: £1 for standard card, £2 for a SIAC card.

Pre-allocated start times for all class based entries with first starts from 10.30am.
The event will use Sportident timing with all controls except start (when used) and finish enabled for contactless (SIAC air) punching.
All championship class based courses will have pre-allocated start times (ie no punching start) but in all cases the finish control MUST be manually punched by ALL competitors.
Highly intricate and complex sand dunes with fine contour detail and features offering high quality technical navigational challenges. Some areas of easier open ground and unvegetated sandy areas provide faster running. Variable vegetation from impenetrable gorse and thorn to open grass (and everything in between) demands constant changes of direction and speed. The entire area is however covered in a complex network of paths and tracks which can aid (or hinder if misread) navigation through the complex terrain.
We regret we have been instructed that dogs, on leads at all times, are strictly limited to the car parks, main access roads and assembly area only, not on any courses please.
toilets and shelter tent at assembly. we regret that no catering vans have been permitted as part of the access arrangements imposed by the landowners but we anticipate an equipment retailer to be present and will confirm soon.
Special notice:
The terrain is a national biosphere and SSSI with very rare flora and fauna necessitating stringent access requirements and limitations on entry numbers across all courses to 400 total. Once this number is reached in the pre-entry system, no further entries will be accepted unless there are subsequent withdrawals.

Insurance: Please note: Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered.
Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. All participants must report to download whether they finish their course or not.

Photography: QO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Photos taken may be retained beyond the 2 year window for legacy purposes.
