Volunteering
We're putting out a call for volunteers again, this time for long-term club roles, some large, some more modest. Over the last couple of years we've had great success filling major roles, many thanks to those who have come forward.
Please consider whether you could help out in any of the following:
Internal Communications
We're keen to improve our messaging to our own members and competitors. We're aware we are only really doing the basics at the moment, and we'd like to be more engaging. Could you help with newsletter content or web articles?
External Marketing
Do you think there are lots of people out there who would love orienteering - if only they knew about it? We are looking for someone willing to take the lead in promoting our club and our sport to the outside world - well, to the local area at least. British Orienteering has resources which we have not yet used, but new ideas always welcome.
Club Welfare Officer
For some time we have been looking for a new Club Welfare Officer. Sheila has kindly offered to do part of the role - being the "go-to" person in case of any welfare concerns. But we need someone to check that the club continues to meet safeguarding obligations and complies with regulations and best practice. There is online training available.
Fixtures Secretary
This is a key role for the club. The fixtures secretary sets the dates of the club events, and takes the lead finding planners, controllers and organisers. The fixtures secretary needs to be close to the club committee and also cooperate with other clubs. I've been the club fixtures secretary for some years now, and have enjoyed the role. But I no longer have the time to do the job properly, so I think it's best if I pass the job on.
Equipment Maintenance
Our event equipment is stored in Upper Cheddon, thanks to the Modica family. But it would be great if we had someone willing to do an occasional stock-take, keep an eye on the condition, purchase replacements, and maybe do the odd repair.
Record Curator
We are required by our insurers to keep certain records such as event entry lists and risk assessments. We have set up a cloud storage site to do this but we could do with somebody to curate this and make sure the necessary data is collected after every event.
Trophy Coordinator
Do you like our physical trophies? Would you be interested in awarding these to winners of the forest league, JOG, club championships? This would involve keeping track of where they are and arranging engraving.
