Staying the distance

Published: Sat 3 Feb 2018

Richard Sansbury showed stamina and adaptability in achieving good results in all three weekend races held over a 24 hour period in the Forest of Dean and Chepstow, which provided a variety of terrain and format. Results: Middle, Sprint, Long

Middle, Saturday

The Middle race was shorter than our normal courses with many tricky controls within a huge network of wet ditches.

Steve Robertson continued a spell of consistently good runs by again finishing in the top quarter of finishers on Blue. Tony Hext was in the top half on Green.

Julia Robertson, Rosie Wych and Andy Rimes also ran.

Sprint, Saturday evening

In the evening Richard, Andy, Tony and Rosie ran at the 18.05 at Chepstow. The going was good to firm (well, it was mostly on pavements).

Short course specialist Tony, a grey in good form, was beaten by a distance by a pair of young throroughbreds but still came in 6th in a field of more than 30.

Richard also clung to the chasing pack on the long course but like Tony finished a few furlongs behind the more fancied steeds. Andy and Rosie finished further down the field, off the pace but maybe holding something back for tomorrow's meet!

Long, Sunday

Sunday's classic distance event doubled up as the latest SW league event (Galoppen). Read the report here.
