Congratulations to Simon St Leger-Harris who completed the London Marathon safely in a time of 5 hours 39 minutes and 53 seconds. Updated with comments from Simon.

I'm very pleased to confirm that I finished the London Marathon safely in a time of 5 hours 39 minutes and 53 seconds.

This was a little outside my target time of 5:30. It was hot and I made the easy (but avoidable) mistake of going off too fast for the first 3 miles. I held my pace well until around mile 16 but struggled a little after that. 2 hours 39 for the first half and exactly 3 hours for the second half. I've been learning to walk properly again for the last 48 hours but apart from that I'm feeling surprisingly good.

The crowds were fantastic. A wall of sound keeping everyone going, especially for the last 6 miles from the Tower and along the Embankment. And I had wonderful support from Miffy at the start and 4 different points en route plus my brother Warham and his wife Ann and my brother-in-law Jonathan and his family at other points.

Thank you for all your good wishes before, during and after the race! Very much appreciated. And thank you all again for your wonderful support of my fundraising. So far you've helped me raise £6,351 and the team of runners for Retina UK has raised £65,638 - and still rising 🙂

Retina UK works solely for people affected by inherited sight loss. They fund medical research for better treatments in future and support affected people to help them lead better lives today.
