Sun Blazing, Amazing at Blaise Castle

Published: Mon 26 Apr 2021

The run of glorious weather continued this Sunday with blue sky across Bristol. Seven members of Quantock Orienteers travelled the short distance beyond the boundary of Somerset to compete in this local BOK event. It was well supported with over two-hundred competitors.

It was orienteering as normal with Si punching and contactless enabled (great for keeping social distance at controls). Entry and registration was all pre-booked with starts selected via the Fabian4 system. Contact with other competitors was further reduced by having two starts keeping the blue and green starts about a kilometre apart.

The Blaise Castle Estate (owned by Bristol City Council) is a 650-acre Grade II registered parkland. Easy access and parking coupled with interesting topographical features made for a fun run in very dry conditions. Well done to Steve (14th on Green) and Annabel (13th on Orange). Unfortunately, for some of the competitors numerous unmarked paths caused confusion. After such a long break many were happy to have resumed the sport they love.

The next BOK event with Si punching is Saturday 22 May at Weston Woods - not too far from the Quantocks!
