November and December News
We are reporting on the conclusion to the JOG term and two recent QOFL results amongst others. There are several members taking up new roles and one new volunteer opportunity. And we have news of future events.
The Autumn JOG term finished in November with a drenching at Ham Hill, but it didn't seem to put off the regulars. Over the term Raffy won the Hare league with two winning runs at Cothelstone and Ash Priors. On Squirrel, James came in just above Theo in a close contest, each beating the other at some point in the term. Roger was clear winner on Badger and Adam won the Fox with an almost unbeatable score. Overall about eighty different names appear in the JOG results this term, thank you to all who attended and gave JOG your support.
We had two events in our Forest League including our last QO-hosted event for this winter. A bumper attendance enjoyed a bright day at Quantock West. And it's finally happened: a Fieldhouse 1-2-3 with Robin winning the brown course ahead of Adam and Robert. At the other end, JOG regulars Christopher and Sidney won the orange and yellow respectively. In between QO were not so dominant with lots of visitors from Devon and BOK, but David, Graham and Tony all took all 2nd places on blue, green and short green respectively.
A week later and an impressive 28 QO members braved a wet and windy Braunton Burrows. Robin won the brown course, with Ollie R in third, either side of a back-in-form Ben. Andy had a good run on blue and Ollie L was QO's fastest on green. Adele made 3rd place on short green, as did Annabelle on orange - up to light green next year? The Forest League still continues with one more Devon-based event to come in February.
Further afield a dozen QO members went to Wimborne and QO had three of the top four places, Ollie taking the win this time. BOK have had a few events but we'll just look at Crabtree Hill where Adam came an impressive 2nd on brown. Finley came 4th on blue, but importantly also 2nd in Interland selection, so we'll see where that leads (announcement due January).
Away from the competitions and we now know that after Easter, Sue will be taking over as JOG coordinator, with Sheila continuing to assist as before. Thank you Sue for volunteering for this important role. We are all very grateful to Ray for stepping up to the daunting role of taking over from Roger & Judy and leading JOG so effectively over the last two years. Meanwhile Graham is still working towards becoming our club Welfare officer. And thanks to Hazel and Adam who are posting frequently on the club Facebook and Instagram pages. Take a look!
We now have another big job up for grabs. After being our webmaster for several years Phil is having to step down due to work pressures, so we are looking for a new webmaster to start within the next few weeks. Again we are all very grateful to Phil for so effectively managing our club website and keeping it lively and accurate. If you have any interest in taking over please make yourself known to the committee as soon as possible.
Karen and Steve have had a meeting with Devon's club chair to follow up the AGM decision to collaborate more closely with Devon. They have identified a number of areas where collaboration could be of mutual benefit. Devon committee have not yet had a chance to discuss in detail this so we'll wait to hear from them.
Finally there are lots of future events to look forward to. We're going to have an event on the morning of December 31st, more details to follow, but save the date. We've a series of five JOGs start in January as well as four evening street events. Add to that a possible six Spunch events this summer (is this starting to sound like a Christmas song?), and we even have the dates for next winter's QOFLs for those that are very organised.
A Happy Christmas to all, and hope to see you on December 31st.
