Lakes 5 Days 2018: Day 2
Angle Tarn Pikes
Day 2 was under threat - event organisers warned of a possible cancellation due to the unexpectedly heavy rainfall and potential for flooded fields for car parking. Fortunately, the event went ahead and competitors enjoyed much improved weather from Day 1.
Competitors faced a steep but steady path to the start. With much better weather conditions confidence and visibility were much improved.
Angletarn Pikes takes its plural from the two rocky towers at the summit, separated by about 200 metres of peaty bog. Angle Tarn (pictured from the southern top) was described by Wainwright as among the best of Lakeland tarns.
Although views were mostly consigned to both course and map there were spectacular views across Patterdale towards Helvellyn.
