After weeks of dry weather it was “waterproofs must be worn/carried by all runners” today. Despite the weather outlook QO entrants were keen to leave the flat fields of Grasmere to tackle the 2.3 km walk (400m of ascent) to the start.

Day 1 of the event was a proper ‘mountain day’ with weather and terrain to typical of the Lake District. Unfortunately, visibility was not great but there were some good views to be had looking back to Grasmere from the clothing drop off. The junior members coped well with the climb to the Start. Despite being very wet and a little cold everyone was in good order and ready to start on time.

Conditions were very challenging and the lack of features other than contours was something that several competitors were not used to.

“It was extremely wet but I enjoyed my course and the rocky terrain” Chloe W10.
