You are warmly invited to attend this informal training session organised by QO. It is open to any orienteer whether in QO or any other club. It is now mandatory for anyone taking the role of planner, organiser or controller to have had attended an event safety workshop, no matter how experienced they are.

At the workshop we will discuss the safety issues surrounding our events, and what planners, organisers and controllers can do about them. Specifically we will look at how to plan acceptably safe courses, how to organise with safety in mind, how to deal with emergencies and what the rules and guidelines say. Hopefully by the end we will all be more confident about how to go about setting up a safe event, and our events will be better managed as a result.

This is a three hour workshop, definitely not a lecture, and you are encouraged to come and share your opinions and experiences. It is entirely a classroom theory session - no outdoor activity is involved. You do not need to study anything in advance. You do not have to bring anything with you either. Tea, coffee, squash and cake will be provided, and it is all free of charge courtesy of SWOA.

We have an exciting new venue! - we will be using the brand new COACH Centre, French Weir Park, Taunton, TA1 1XQ, grid ref ST 220 248. Link to Streetmap

There is parking nearby in Tesco - I'm sure they won't mind! Please arrive 6:45pm so we can make a prompt start at 7:00pm.

For further information or to book a place contact Richard Sansbury on richard.sansbury@btinternet.com, 01823 288405 or 07790 511732. Please let me know if you intend to come.
