Croydon Hill Regional Event - Planners Comments:

As you may well have noticed yesterday, Croydon can be a little undulating in nature. Achieving course lengths corrected for maximum length versus height gain to comply with BOF recommendations would be the subject of much debate between the controller, Lew, and myself. You will, I'm sure, be grateful that Lew eventually managed to persuade me to cut down my early drafts by up to 20% on most courses. Looking down at the results times, I think he made the right decision!
With terrain as this, the courses would always be physically demanding, so I made them less technical to compensate. Of course we couldn't predict the snow and ice which still remained up here only two or three days ago. It had, fortunately, killed off the last of the lingering bracken growth making the forest and open moor sections more runnable, but did leave a legacy of huge volumes of meltwater which made everywhere, but the steep slopes in particular, treacherously slippery and loose- I hope that didn't detract from your enjoyment. The gloroius weather on Sunday brought out the best of this delightful area- hopefully you managed to glimpse some deer or some of the wood sculptures dotted randomly through the forest.
My usual thanks: to the controller Lew for his words of wisdom and advice, to my unnamed control collectors- you know who you are, and lastly to our hosts for use of their farm facilities for parking, registration and other uses.
