Blackborough QOFL 3 Event - Organisers Comments:

Cold weather returned but ultimately we were lucky with the weather – who remembers the wild, windy, wet conditions at the Galoppen here two years ago when the crowds stayed at home?

Although there was enough ice on the road uphill to prevent me from reaching the venue before 9, the sky remained clear and bright until our operation closed at 4. And the partial freeze meant conditions underfoot were pleasingly crisp and not slippery.

The event base was great; everything was within a stone’s throw. There were toilets, shelter, hard standing for cars and a small enclosed wood was available for a string course (run by JOG and the Green family). Plus, thanks to the team of Bill Vigar and debutant planner Chris Denton, there
was only a short walk to start and finish and all the courses were conveniently contained within the Southern area of the forest.

Basking as we were in such comfort, I am particularly grateful to our Forest Glade host, Norman Wellard, for the use of the toilets and the garage and its electricity.

One hiccough, early on. We publicised the event with the wrong grid reference! This became important because our sign-posting was so minimal. Happily, two volunteers drove around to put up signs to redirect those who had inadvertently begun a magical mystery tour. Hopefully no one was left ‘out there’.

Also, thank you to all those who did a task they weren’t scheduled to do; this sort of flexibility made the event run smoothly.
