Christmas Street Event 2007 - Taunton - Thurs 27th Dec - Results

Planner (and Contoller !!) comments

These results are a little late being published and for that I apologise. This is the second street event I have organised and I found it great fun although this time the weather was not as kind to me in the planning/surveying stage!! The first map I produced, 11 years ago,  was a black and white photocopy of a traced and amended street map the second I drew on CoralDraw and exported as a PDF file; not the purist's package but great fun. I hope you all found it sufficiently accurate for your needs.

As to the planning, the idea was to put the 10 point controls in a relatively safe environment where it was not necessary to cross the main through roads (that were marked in red). These controls were also intended for juniors and as last minute points for those of you who had crossed to the Southern part of the map. I had intended there should be more controls than could be collected even by the most fleet of foot and although I succeeded in that aim Gavin Clegg ran me close. The clues were a mix, some fact and some puzzle with just a few of the latter to avoid too much controversy!!!!!!! There was a complaint about the Bird Table not being in the centre of the circle; I put this to the Controller who rejected it and the results stand!!!!

Safety is always an issue in these types of events particular in the litigious age in which we live. The QO Ctte discussed the matter at some length; the compulsory road crossing, for those of you who ventured south of the main road, and the restrictions for juniors was the result of that discussion. Thankfully the event passed off without mishap and I hope we will have more of them in the future.

Congratulations to Gavin Clegg (1st place) and Andrew Appleby (1st place Juniors)

Now my thanks to Judy and Roger Craddock for all their hard work, they arranged for us to use, what I thought, was a perfect event centre. They also organised the venue and menu for the buffet, bought the prizes and helped on the day. We are also grateful to the Head Teacher of North Town Primary School . Finally I must thank my wife Lennox who did all the many Christmas things that have to be done when the family stays whilst at the same time allowing me to organise the event and she helped on the day.

Thank you all for coming but in particular, and I hope you will not mind, a big thank you to my grandson Finn (and his Mum) for making this his first O event.

PS Those of you who took your results sheet with you, if you let me have your score I will amend the results accordingly
