Bill Vigar 2 x 2 Trophy Results - Blackborough Sunday 22 April 2007

Organiser's Comments

A great idea and an excellent venue.  Well done, Bill and Sue for responding to the SWOA decision to ‘trash’ our electronic punching system by reacting positively and putting on a ‘fun’, novel, event for locals and providing the opportunity for unpredictable winners!  Ted Heath provided a couple of excellent Bill Vigar 2x2 trophies for the winners to ‘hone’ their skills on (two mounted whetstones obtained locally) and QO provided the first 3 pairs with certificates and free entry to a QO event.  Judy and I enjoyed the solitude of caravanning in the middle of the 7 acre field for a couple of nights ‘guarding’ the toilet – the sight of which brought concern to local residents who thought it was the beginning of a ‘rave’ or illegal settlement.

I doubt we will find another venue again that provides two different areas for the two legs each team ran, but we will certainly try.  I hope those that came will spread the word amongst those who missed out this time.

Thanks to all the helpers and participants, but especially thanks to Bill and Sue.

As the event was squeezed between the JK & the BOC , the main objective was to provide a 'fun' event but with some technical challenge and no easily predictable winners.

The method chosen as a leveler was to allow self selection of modified colour coded courses. The modification was to adjust the lengths to give the same winning time for all courses. To allow the Brown & Blue a reasonable run time the Yellow runners had to go rather further than normal. The results show that the Brown, Blue and possibly Green were about 10-20% too long. I did not allow enough time for the technical difficulty, particularly of the Northern part, this, together with the rather 'mean' placement of some of the controls, gave the Light Green , Orange and Yellow a clear advantage.

It was a bit of a problem deciding what form to present the results in. There are a number of options attached, all of which tell different parts of the story. We hope that for the statistically enthusiastic amongst you this will provide hours of pleasure!!
