Map-reading with purpose
If you watch elite orienteers in action, they rarely spend much time looking at the map. It seems to me they look quickly, pick up the minimum necessary information, and quickly get moving.
From this I conclude that if you want to be a better orienteer then I need to develop techniques that spend less time looking down at the map, and more time head up, running hard and paying attention to your surroundings. The following tips contains some techniques that might help.
