Planner comments from Rosie:

Glad that so many reported favourably on their courses today - helped somewhat by the weather gods smiling on QO for a change. The Quantocks are at their best for orienteering now bracken has died down and I also tried to use some of the best runnable woodlands. Well done to those who were still smiling after arduous height gain and looking for yet another platform. It was a challenge to get interesting courses without - believe it or not - even more height gain. Carol was easy to work with as controller with constructive suggestions and good communication. Thanks also to the small band of helpers - Robert especially for taking on the organiser role when relatively new to orienteering. Special mention to Linda who ended up with a mammoth shift at yet another windblown start, went for a run and then collected controls.

Forest League 2024/25 Series Info

Our league events are open to all, beginner or experienced orienteer, young or old and there are colour-coded courses suitable for all.

We have five of these events a year and together they form the Forest League (QOFL). The series starts in the Autumn and continues at approximately one event per month until the spring.

Please note that for the 2024/25 season, all our league events will be Regional events (Level C).

Anyone can get a result for an event, but for it to be included in the league scoring you have to be a member of a British Orienteering affiliated club at the time of entry.

Directions / Parking

Parking: Car park 1 (Wilmot's pool car park) is the main car park for the event, you can also use car parks 2 & 3. The car parks are not for our exclusive use, so please park responsibly and considerately. The arena will be at car park 1.

Location of car parks

Please do not park on the roadside by instruction from National Landscapes.

Course Information

Courses:

White1.7km50m
Yellow2.2km65m
Orange3.0km95m
Light Green3.1km135m
Short Green2.9km120m
Green4.0km170m
Blue5.0km280m
Brown7.1km350m

Course lengths are problematic to fit within recommended BOF guidelines as descent into combes is necessary to add technical difficulty but makes them more physical. Planning is also complicated by trying to avoid the ingress of gorse in the area. Direct route choices across this are likely to be painful and may be best avoided.
