Results commentary

An excellent turnout of just under 100 for the QOFL2 at Blackborough. A glorious early autumn morning, plus the facilities of Forest Glade Caravan Park made it a very sociable event. Simon Beck showed the youngsters how to do it, coming 3rd on Blue. Fiona Boyd was first female. On Green; Roger Dickey was 7th and on Short Green Tony Milroy 2nd. Light Green, Orange and Yellow all saw QO victories with Ian Pye, Heather Green and Ben West respectively. Matilda Anderson was 2nd on the White.

Organisers Comments

Our thanks to the helpers who pulled the Event off the ‘abandoned’ category when Organiser Chris Hasler had to go into hospital for a major back operation in the previous week. Judy and I really enjoyed the day despite my being restricted to mainly sitting duties with a 4 week old new knee! We appreciated the good spell of weather for the period of the event, although the previous night’s heavy rain made the courses a bit muddy – the soil at Blackborough is not very porous! Bill Vigar’s courses and placement of controls were much appreciated again, and we were very grateful to the management of the Forest Glade Caravan Park for the use of their facilities, catering, and parking field, for which we made a donation of £50 for the Air Ambulance.

Once again the viability of our events relies heavily on support from our regular customers from neighbouring clubs in the South West – only 40% of the entries were from QO. 22 were helpers of which 6 were QO junior members.
