Howgills, Lake District
Arising presumably fresh from their overnight camp, the Shirvingtons had a very impressive day 2, climbing 13 places to 47th of 115.
Harterfell Class- Overall results
The Modicas meanwhile climbed one place and clocked up 16.5 hours on the hills.
Stephen's Lake District trip
Stephen Lysaczenko took the opportunity to orienteer at Loweswater while up north for the Lakeland 5 Passes Ultra and another fell race. On the 5 Passes, he clocked up the 32 miles (3000m climb) in under eight hours, finishing in the top 50 out of 200+ competitors.
and QO members
Several of our members take part in a variety of adventure races further afield. These are variously known as mountain marathons, ultras, fell running...and sometimes a Long O, the orienteering world's version of a mountain marathon.
Further afield & abroad
Almost guaranteed weather & sun tan, plenty of choice on courses, free-flowing wine and cheap entries- orienteering further south has its attractions! This year's O France festival is in the Provence/Alps region from 7 - 12 July. Entries close on Thursday 20 June.
Funeral & gathering
With great sadness we learned, as all members will have by now, that Sue died recently (18 April).
Sue's funeral is this Thursday (9 May) and arrangements are detailed further below, together with a piece written by Mike Crockett.
In the Peak District
Mike Crockett has provided the following details of the memorial service for former QO chairman David Parkin on Saturday 6 April in Derbyshire, for any QO members interested in attending.
It is with sadness we announce the death of Dave on 3 February.
One of the club's earliest members, Dave soon became chairman and a long-serving one at that. His son Richard described orienteers as being his father's extended family.
