SW League (4 of 9), Dartmoor

Sunday saw 13 intrepid QO’s attend the South West League Galoppen at Fernworthy Reservoir on Dartmoor. It was a spectacularly bright and beautiful morning driving over the moor into the Forest, which is one of the better orienteering areas in the South West. On the Brown; Will Kromhaut was 4th, 19 minutes down on winner Ben Chesters. Jeff Pakes was an excellent 6th taking some notable scalps in the process. Gavin was 6th and 1st M60 on the Blue, 4 minutes behind the winner. Bill Vigar won the Short Green with Tony Milroy 3rd.

After dark events

Saturday evening at Broomfield was the first in the Quantock After Dark (QOAD) races. The usual “One set of controls first followed by the other set” ensued with Will Kromhaut coming out on top, Matt Owen second, Richard Sansbury 4th and Pete Shirvington 5th.

Monday evening was a Night race held at Sturminster Newton, part of the Wessex Region Night League. A straight “one hour score” where Gavin managed to come out on top.
