Despite most of our runners being there for the first time, they generally did very well.

Those who kept on orienteering throughout the Christmas / New Year period seem to have a spring in their step this new year. One is Steve Robertson who was 10th out of more than 30 on the second longest course, Blue. Another was Martin Lewis, whose 3rd place on Light Green gained him the maximum league points available. That's because the top two don't belong to South West clubs. This result lifts Martin up to second in his league.

Tony Hext was again top QO member on Green, shaving 5 minutes off the hour he usually takes and finishing in the top half of the field. Tony now sits 3rd in the Green league table. Taking just over an hour was Galoppen debutant Guy Marson. John Trayler and Pete Akers also recorded respectable times. Pete showed a keen sense of direction (see Routegadget illustration), making the direct route work well for him each time.

The Marsons, who only recently joined us, are already seriously testing themselves by attempting courses at the highest technical level. Esme and Samantha got round the popular Short Green course, finishing only a few places below the highly experienced Julia Robertson.

On the junior courses, Izzy Lewis was 2nd on Yellow. Like Martin, she was the top South West runner on her course so gaining maximum points and jumping up to 2nd in her league. On White, the youngest of the Marson family, Orla, was runner-up and just 18s behind winner Eskarina, the youngest of the very speedy Medlock clan of Wessex OC. The other Lewises, Karen (on Orange), Ollie and Annabelle, also had a run out.
