Another double shift

Published: Fri 22 Feb 2019

Pete Shirvington and Martin Lewis continue to get that 'day after the night before' feeling! Head torches out for Saturday evening on a scarp slope in the Cotswolds before heading for Dartmoor the next day.

Plus: reports from other recent events in the region

Standish Woods / Dartmoor, February 16 / 17

Martin dramatically improved from the previous week's after dark event, scoring one less control than Pete- but 10 more points! Martin did have the advantage of having run at the National Trust wood & beauty spot, shortly before Christmas and in daylight.

Martin said: "I took a good scalp (lol) - but at the cost of Haytor- my legs just couldn't keep going".

Not so leg-heavy on the moors was Angela Modica who skipped round the Green course in an hour, finishing 6th of 27.

Newcomer Ben Loudon justified his decision to step up to Light Green, having ran once or twice since sampling an Orange course at our Ham Hill event last year.

Leigh Woods, February 9

Pete Shirvington and Martin Lewis put in a real shift this weekend, running in a Saturday's after dark event in Bristol before our Galoppen on Sunday.

Bristol OK's night event at Leigh Woods was adjacent to the spectacular Avon gorge. Making it extra tricky were MTB tracks criss-crossing the main paths. Pete and Martin also had to contend with the steep valleys which spill in to the Avon gorge.

Chris Cudmore had it a bit easier- he got to see it all in daylight, a few hours earlier on the Green course in BOK's local league event.

Stockhill, January 27

The week before, the usual suspects plus some more ran at Bristol OK's regional event on the Mendips. Stockhill is a testing area which benefitted from a nice piece of remapping for last year's British Middle Distance champs. Pete Shirvington and Steve Robertson each beat a few high-ranked runners from BOK, on the Blue course.

Another notable result was Robert Green's 21st place finish out of 77 on Green, on a happy hunting ground for Robert (technical terrain).

Oliver and Annabel Lewis took on some tough competition on the Yellow course but again both finished in the top half of the leaderboard.
