Update 19th February
Good news. You will probably be aware that yesterday the government announced that they were dropping all plans for the big forest sell-off. This is a result of public pressure - so thanks to everyone who helped apply that pressure!
We had some dialogue with MPs, although we had hardly started by the time of this surprise announcement. I will give a full report on what we did in the next QuOnicle.
Thanks

Update - 14th February
Thanks everyone who responded to my message about the sell-off. I had a huge response, more than for anything else I have consulted the club about. You were unanimous in your opposition to the sell-off, and there were many strong opinions on the matter. We are lobbying our MPs and will let you know if we get any response.
If you oppose this sell-off, why not add your name to one of these petitions?

I expect all orienteers are now aware of the government proposal to sell off large areas of Forestry Commission land. I and the QO committee are concerned this may result in reduced opportunities for orienteering. Current arrangements work well for us - the FC understands our needs, encourages access, is supportive of outdoor activities and is reliable.
A consultation is currently in progress. Anyone is free to make a response, either using the consultation questionnaire, or by signing one of several petitions that have been set up. However, it is our intention to make a response as a club, opposing the sell-off. Before we can do that we need to know if the membership agree.
If club members have an opinion on the matter please let us know. A reply to me at richard.sansbury@btinternet.com by 14th February would be appreciated.
